Election Day....POST #3

1:47 Logged in to the Barack Obama campaign site to make calls to Obama supporters in swing states, encouraging them to vote and tell them about their polling location.

1:50 Familiarized myself with the calling script and website where I am expected to record information.

1:55 Made first call to a supporter in Missoula, MT. Turned out to be a wrong number. Logged information.

1:56 Made call to a supporter in Fort Shaw, MT. Went to voicemail. Left a message encouraging supporter to vote today at their specified location and provided a phone number if they had questions.

1:58 Made call to a supporter in Malta, MT. Wrong number again. Logged information.

1:59 Made call to a supporter in Savage, MT. Elderly woman answered the phone and I asked for the supporter. She told me he was deceased. I expressed my condolences. She said "Why did you want to speak with him?" So I told her I was a volunteer with the Obama campaign and that I was calling to give him polling information. She said "Oh! I talked with you last night! I voted. I know he would have voted too if he was here." It was terribly awkward and I just said I was sorry and appreciated her support.

2:02 Decided I was not up for contacting more people via phone. It was just too uncomfortable.
2:03 Guilt smacked me upside the head.
2:04 Got distracted by the television (turned on, but on "mute) for a moment. Decided this was no time to be wimpy.
2:06 Looked at list and realized I could call a few more. Ugh. Responsibility and obligation aren't always easy to deal with.

2:08 Called supporter in Glendive. Left a message which was more profesisonal sounding than the first message I left. Maybe my nerves are calming down.

2:12 Chinook voter supported Obama and took her husband to the polls with her. Hooray!

2:14 Realized I need to get some work done on the contract I've taken with a friend's non-profit to do some data entry this week. Yikes! Civic duty collides with bringing home a little piece of bacon.

MORE TO COME.......
