You have a choice, but I suggest you just give me your $10.

WARNING: I am going to discuss the plot of Spider-Man 3. This movie is about choices. I thoroughly disliked this film and considered it a waste of time (even though I liked #1 and 2) so, if you still to want to watch this movie and don't want to "spoil" the movie I suggest that you don't read any further. You do have a choice.

Saturday night, after a lovely day of bike riding through Concord and Acton, we had a brief picnic on the Charles River. It was a wee bit chilly so we made our way home, checked the movie listings and decided to see Spider-Man 3. After all, we had enjoyed the first 2 films and this new film seemed to have more of a real-life dilemma (personal choices and their consequences as opposed to *just* fighting super-power villains) so we decided to go.

But don't be fooled by the media commentary...."The budget has been estimated at over $250 million, making it the most expensive movie of all time. Look at it that way and $11 a ticket is a real bargain!"

It was a wretched waste of money. At this point you may want to make the choice to just give me your $10 (or more if you would have been buying popcorn and soda) and I'll take you somewhere different where we will have a lot more fun. If you're really worried about missing the great content of the film, I have taken the liberty of finding some clips for you to explain the whole story. And if they dare to make a Spider-Man 4, you will have these cliff notes. Trust me you are missing *nothing* by skipping this movie, except wasting 2 hours and 20 minutes of your life. This film is about choices....and so is this blog post. I urge you to choose to spend your cold hard cash on something else.
(Problems ARE right around the corner...at this point in the film you are only about 20 minutes into it and have 2 more hours to go. The dumbest 2 hours of your life.)

By the time Peter/Spidey gets the suit, you've seen 2 supernatural bad guys that really don't make any comic book or sci-fi sense, and you're introduced to a 3rd bad guy who is the typical over-acted 20-something schmoozer-looser character without superhuman abilities, that later GETS super powers. To make matters worse, once Peter gets the new black suit, which by the way has a *very weak* explanation... he starts messing up his hair and wearing black eyeliner to indicate he is suddenly "troubled" and in great angst. Did they have to use the eyeliner? Please.)

(Peter is mean to and neglects the two best things going for him, his girl MJ and sweet Aunt May. This actually is a bad thing - we should not neglect the people we love.)

(Actually, this revenge stuff happens before that stupid black suit enters the picture. I really like "Harry" who was also in the great TV show "Freaks and Geek" quite a lot. Especially in the parts of this film where he is a nice guy. But what will these two boys do to settle their playground disputes? Darn that bad black spidey suit. Will it ruin everything? NO! The writers ruined this film looooong loooong ago.)

(Additionally, two of the most unbelievable supernatural evil guys have teamed up. But of course, spidey can get them with the help of his former best friend who was evil and decided to be good. Because the theme of this movie is that we have choices.)

Will he or won't he? What if he can't over come the power of the black suit? What if he can?
Untangle me from the web of powerful special effects...I will think twice about CHOOSING to spend my money on Spider-Man 4. And now you can think twice about Spider-Man 3.

Don't worry, you didn't spoil anything as I knew all these plot details without seeing the film. But I didn't really get what you hated about it so much.

That the villains weren't realistic enough? I mean, when the reference point is a guy who is bit by a radioactive spider and becomes able to sling webs and climb buildings... well...

Not that I'm rushing to see it... the cheesiness of the second film put me off the franchise, but I do like that black suit...
