This in many ways, seems like a strange video to post. But maybe it doesn't seem all that strange in other ways. This video is a compilation of footage taken from a trip taken by musician Sara Groves on a recent trip to Rwanda.
While there are many things about this video I don't care for there are a lot of things I like about this song and the lyrics. I think the lyrics are what get me the most. They remind me of all the volunteer work I've ever done, and of all the times I've spent with people when they are in pain, their hearts are broken, and there is little I can do to help.
It also helps me prepare myself for our own journey to Rwanda this summer where Ryan will be putting his intellectual abilities to work by helping people through pro bono legal services.
The lyrics are listed after the video.
I saw what I saw and I can't forget it
I heard what I heard and I can't go back
I know what I know and I can't deny it
Something on the road, cut me to the soul
Your pain has changed me
your dream inspires
your face a memory
your hope a fire
your courage asks me what I'm afraid of
(what I am made of)
and what I know of love
we've done what we've done and we can't erase it
we are what we are and it's more than enough
we have what we have but it's no substitution
Something on the road, touched my very soul
I say what I say with no hesitation
I have what I have and I'm giving it up
I do what I do with deep conviction
Something on the road, changed my world

Wow...I love that song! Rwanda...what what?!?! That sounds awesome...I want to hear more!! Good friends of ours from Congo were in a refugee camp in Rwanda for several years and talk about it all the time...they will be so excited to hear we know people going there.
The man carrying a basket on his head, wearing a Boston Bruins shirt!
love this song....
