Wednesday - Infirmary Day 3 (March 5, 2008)

Day 3 Headlines:

Many of our hopes for the future of the infirmary and beginning to come to fruition. We had a fruitful conversation with the Matron this morning and are making some headway in launching programs to better facilitate volunteer activity, provide exercise and creative stimulation for residents, and provide better standards for performance evaluations.

As always, more time was spent with residents. Liz spent time with Patricia, who was not feeling well today...not a good development given that she's scheduled for surgery on Monday.

Another man passed away last evening, an occurrence common enough to be rather routine for the staff and residents but a shocking reminder to Liz and I about not only the sheltered-ness of our lives, but the needs of the Infirmary.

I (Ryan) got locked in the bathroom today. One of the staff members came to help me, but I didn't understand her when she told me to stand back. She kicked the door in while I was leaning down fiddling with the doorknob, and now I've got a nice lump on my head - I guess it's better than being stuck in the bathroom!
